So much literature had been written on the ways and methods of achieving success. Many things were brought out on most aspects of success, including those opposite things that hamper it. Strangely, only a few have paid attention to the deleterious effect of procrastination on success.

Procrastination, as experts view it, is an acquired habit. It develops and grows on a person and before he knows it, that person becomes a total slave to the bad aspects of procrastination.

Experts have listed some methods of eliminating procrastination. The following are some of the more promising ones.

Personal values development

If you are a procrastinator, take time out to discover what you really want in life, what your personal values are.

Do you want more time, more money, better health, greater self-esteem and confidence, more fulfilling relationships, a different career, or do you want to set up a business?

Procrastination happens when what we are planning is not aligned with what we truly want. We may be scared or fear ridicule from others.

Prioritizing health

Without good health we won’t have the energy and dynamism needed to make positive changes in our lives. It’s easier to procrastinate then.

The remedy is ensuring that we have a good diet, good sleep, exercise and being able to meditate.

Visualization

Can you visualize your life without procrastination? Can you see and feel the benefits? What could you have done and achieved had you not procrastinated?

Begin to act like you do not procrastinate. Write down, draw and imagine your life.

Banish the gremlin

The gremlin is that voice in your head that keeps saying “I’m not in the mood”, or “I don’t have time”, “I can’t do this”, and usually dismisses any idea that you might have.

Stop being on autopilot. Replace the “ought to” and “have to” with “want to”, “love to” and other positive verbs.

.Over-commitment

When you say yes to everything and to everybody, you often have that tired feeling. This leads to procrastination as projects, tasks, duties, and many others are dropped.

Identify what is important to you. Focus on those areas which will make the biggest difference to your life.

Divide and conquer

After you prioritize your goals, divide them into smaller chunks. Sometimes we procrastinate because a project seems really large that the scale overwhelms us.

This puts us into a temporary form of paralysis — you don’t know where to start, so you simply won’t start at all.

If you are able to weed procrastination out of your system, the commitment of success will be easier to do.
