Your Questions About Self-improvement Plan

Mary asks…

What was one step you took today towards self-improvement?

and how do you plan on that progress?
:)

:
: . . .

MKWeb answers:

I stood up straight and looked at the sky instead of the floor all the time. It felt good, but it was cold as heck today. So windy that I got swept off my feet. And, now I'm sick. :o (

Mark asks…

which virtue did Franklin have the most trouble with?

which virtue did Franklin have the most trouble with? how could Franklin's self-improvement plan be applied fruitfully to your own life?

MKWeb answers:

Franklin tried really hard but I think he had trouble with ALL the virtues. Not that he was a bad guy, he is my favorite Founding Father and would be lots of fun to hang with. But he was a bit of a character!

David asks…

What are some other good books out about relationships?

I just finished reading Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. I absolutely loved it.
It is a self-improvement book, and I plan to read a few others by that author.
I'm open for any suggestions. They do not have to be self-improvement.
They can be fiction or non-fiction.
I am a teenager, so I would rather nothing too complex.
Any good book that deal with relationships, preferably between a boyfriend and girlfriend

Please do not suggest the Twilight Saga, I have already read the series.

MKWeb answers:

"I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by Joshua Harris (it's a real fun read. Trust me!)

"Boy Meets Girl" by Joshua Harris

Susan asks…

songs to feel good and dance to?

Recently, my boyfriend left me for someone else. I was destroyed and with a really low self-esteem. So now I am working on a self-improvement plan to feel better about myself. I have been working out everyday and I already made some accomplishments. Part of this plan includes dancing. I love to dance and it makes me feel so much better about who I am. Can anyone please recommend songs that will get me pumped up and ready to feel good?
Lyrics and beat are important.

MKWeb answers:

This river is wild-the killers
human-the killers
dear child-anthony green
smile like you mean it-the killers
bones-the killers
***pretty much anything by the killers....lol =] im a big fan of them

Robert asks…

I need a murder attempt at the weekend self improvement workshop.?

I've been going through the headlines for ideas but everybody just shoots everybody. Boring. I've thought of pushing something heavy off the balcony, poison in the beverage, a banana peel on the stairs. All the usual stuff but I want something different. People have separate rooms but the wannabe murderer has access. It can't be something premeditated that takes a lot of planning because the idea doesn't occur until everyone is already there. Any suggestions.
I'm not going to do it, crisma. I'm a writer. Not only that but the murder attempt is destined to fail. It's a comedy.

MKWeb answers:

Hmmm. An "attempt" implies that the person survived the action, and could finger you as the perp. Perhaps a strangulation from behind? Smothering? Something that the victim couldn't see, so the investigation would be very challenging. You could try some kind of martial arts that only required a few fingers in strategic points to kill... Try doing a google search on unsolved murders. Good Luck.

Your Questions About Self Development Of People

Paul asks…

What hinders the development of self-belief in people?

I agree with "avatar" (the second answer) that the lack of real-world accomplishment is a major factor in hindering self-belief, and as you mentioned, "accomplishment is usually tied to work and effort and the development of repeatable skills".

But don't these works and efforts require a great-deal of self-belief too, a strong sense of belief that the work and effort will not go wasted and that they will eventually contribute to a person's success?

In that case, it seems like a never ending cycle. At one instance, the lack of self-belief is attributed to the lack of real-world accomplishments, and on the other hand, the lack of real-world accomplishment can be attributed to the lack of self-belief.

It seems like it takes an unusual circumstances or an earth-shattering paradigm shift for an individual to be able to break into the cycle to achieve something that the individual felt great about, and subsequently sustain the self-belief.

What do you think?

MKWeb answers:

What hinders the development of self-believe is that one gives the power to someone that believes less in themselves.. People are mean and can say mean things but when they do and try to beat you down but you don't let them. Then they can not control your development. They might hinder a child but not to an adult if the adult does not permit it.

Helen asks…

Give reasons for the importance of children and young people's development of self-esteem and resilience?

i HAVE TO WRITE DOWN THE REASONS FOR MY NVQ2 AND i CAN'T SEEM TO PUT IT INTO WORDS, PLEASE HELP

MKWeb answers:

If you are going to be working with children I really think you need to do this yourself.
If you are having problems with the wording simply say it out loud as if you are telling someone and write it down as you speak.

Michael asks…

I am looking for a personal development group in Sydney Australia. Anyone know a good place to look ?

I'm not looking for a 12 step program. I want a bunch of people motivated towards self development.

MKWeb answers:

A great place to start looking is in a Magazine called Nova. They have ads for groups and seminars etc...

Nova is a free giveaway mag that is available at most New Age type outlets and many health food stores.

Sydney is a very happening place, I feel SURE that you can find SOMETHING to get you started.

Going along to a workshop or seminar is a great first step to meeting new people with a common interest.

I wish you luck.

William asks…

Why do people insist on doing the matchy thing with twins?

Doesn't it seem obvious that it would not be good for a child's development and sense of self? Some people even go as far as to use the same name.

MKWeb answers:

You'd think that would be obvious, but it seems certain parents overlook that in their excitement to find "cute" names that are generally variations of each other ... Or at the very least, uncomfortably similar. In essence, they end up naming just one child, and finding something horridly matchy for the second (seems like Twin B gets the short end of the stick, eh?). :(

It honestly amazes me that with all the twin/multiple studies done and emphasis placed on helping develop their individuality and separate sense of self-worth, these parents would realize the folly of literally ingraining the exact opposite with their very identity! If dressing them the same, constantly referring to them as "the twins" and refusing to allow them separate classrooms, social circles and activities can be detrimental to their individual development, doesn't it follow that forcing them to FOREVER be a "matched set" would be even more harmful? It really is a shame.

Perhaps a few future parents will stumble upon your post and come to see the stereotypical twin names in a new light. ;) Here's hoping!

Donna asks…

Are there any international personal development marketing companies?

I love personal development and I am looking for a company that is interested in self motivated people with a strong ethic. I am one of those people! I am looking for an international business marketing self empowerment courses and seminars. I love to meditate, listen to tapes daily. My favourite amongst the popular authors are: Dr. Wayne Dyer, Stephen Covey, Napoleon Hill, Jamie McIntyre et. I love this industry, to be able to help myself and others.

MKWeb answers:

Join a sales job. They have library of self-motivating books. MDRT is a great organisation in personal development. But membership is only given by merits/performance base in your sales job. They believe, only people who had made it or successful be given the right to teach, motivate and counsel others.

Carol asks…

Question about non-fiction, self-improvement, success, or goals books?

All of them seem to assume that the reader is already a manager, a boss, an important person at work.
Since I don't have any employees, and since i'm not a boss, should i stop reading these books and find another way to succeed?

Why are these books always assuming that I'm already bill gates or Jack Welch?? If i was already sitting in a corner office, why the f*** would i need to read a book about success? :(

MKWeb answers:

NO! Don't ever stop reading books that separate you from 'the pack' and make you more valuable. Bringing value to the marketplace is one of the main keys to success. Maybe you just need to read different books. Try 'Personal Development for Smart People' by Steve Pavlina, or one of my favorites - 'The Slight Edge' by Jeff Olson. Also, Randy Gage and Jim Rohn have great collections of material as well.

Laura asks…

Goals can you give me one of each please?

what are some of your personal goals, career goals, recreational goals, material goals, self improvement goals, charity goals, and spiritual goal.

MKWeb answers:

My goal is to get enough points on Yahoo so that I can ask more question each day. - smiles (I love asking questions)

David asks…

I need help with my own self-improvement.?

I have officially decided that its time to revamp my image and my capabilities, and I'm tired of being mediocre at everything. I cannot tell if this is an identity crisis or the fact that I simply haven't been able to truly realize that perhaps I just don't understand the order of things. I'm afraid that I dream of big things and great accomplishments but am cursed with none of the abilities necessary to do them.

I started at football in High School, yet I was always jealous and disheartened by those who had the natural physique and skill to be college worthy. It just made me angry that in the grand scheme of things that some kid, not due to any work ethic or greatness of his character, was blessed with the genes that allowed him run faster than me and lift more than I could.

In academics, I was always frustrated that I simply was too bored, too angry, and too lazy to excel in the high school education system. I was again jealous of those who, though lacking in physical capability or social skills, had in my opinion a set life ahead of them just with their raw intelligence and academic work ethic. I always felt as though if I possessed that kind of intelligence, my goals would be clear cut and the direction of my life simple.

Socially, I do not charismatically take over my situation.
I have a fairly difficult time small talking, and I'm in no way getting the joys that I see so many of the socialite pretty boys at my school enjoying, particularly the attractive women. I could never manipulate others or convince people to follow me.

Now High School is ending, and I get a fresh start in college. What should I do, work on my weaknesses or fortify my strengths? Should I tone down my own self-improvement rhetoric? and just accept that maybe I'm just a mediocre person destined for mediocre things? Or am I fine, and merely just need a change in environment?

Anyways, I'm going to college on an ROTC scholarship, so I'm going to be in the military. Perhaps this is my avenue for excellence. So perhaps merely recommendations for success in college or military is all I need.
thanks.

MKWeb answers:

Aight Slick here's the deal, I'm graduating college in the ROTC program, I'm about to be a 2LT, hence my nickname. Youre issue here is clearly self-confidence. How I got past this a LONG time ago was I forced it aside and made myself do something that was completely outlandish. It doesn't matter what it is. It could be as small as walking up to one of the hot chicks and start talking, it could be something as big as throwing Youre own party or running through your school ass-naked. That might get your cadre a bit pissed(they'll laugh their asses off after you've left the office because they'll think its funny as hell, in a good way) at you, but it will get you noticed and it will kill your lack of self-confidence on the spot. Go to the gym, workout more, go running. Improve your body however you want to, hit the books, learn to do something. I'll tell you this the longer you sit on the internet thinking about this and avoid getting your name out in public, the longer and harder its going to be to actually get up and do something about it.

Chances are you are already a really chill guy... You just don't know it yet.

Remember this, you'll never be able to lead soldiers unless you can lead yourself first.

You wanna know what really ruins someones college experience? College itself. ROTC takes up no time compared to classes and homework.

To Nick:

Nick I'm sorry but how would you know about any brainwashing if you've never even been in/around the program. The opinion of one person who quit isnt really a basis for any manner of intelligent conclusion. Non-ROTC college kids think the military brainwashes people just like high-school dropouts think that college brainwashes college students. Think about it Nick, you have no factual basis for squat.

The only thing that gets people is if they don't pay attention to the contract they sign. Its the same as if you were signing a contract for insurance, a house, a car, etc. You wouldnt sign any of those without reading the fine print either. And if you do, its your own fault if you get screwed.

"The only thing that ROTC will lead to is death." Really? How about the hundreds of thousands of retired officers who are currently in another career/enjoying retirement. There are more homicides in Washington D.C. Annually then there are military deaths in 5 Afganistans.

Susan asks…

Looking for the title of a self improvement book bought many years ago..?

It was this small paperback book regarding how to get anything you want in life. I think the title was something like.." How to get whatever you want" or " The secret to getting anything you want in life"..anyway I really want to read it again. It basically said that as long as you were willing to do whatever it takes ( and I mean whatever it takes! ) you can reach your goal although, most times you didn't need to do everything on that list. Is this ringing any bells with anyone? If so, please give me the title or author so I can get another copy. Thank you sooo much.

Donald asks…

is there a psychological test to determine level of self confidence?

The context is pre admission screening for an educational program. I'm not looking for self help.

MKWeb answers:

Psychological tests fall into several categories:
Achievement and aptitude
Intelligence
Neuropsychological
Occupational
Personality
Specific clinical tests

No psychological test is ever completely valid or reliable because the human psyche is just too complicated to know anything about it with full confidence. ♥

Helen asks…

My bf wants to test my self-confidence, so he wants me to......?

he wants me to stand infront of him completely naked. we've been together for 4years now and we always do our thing in the dark. so i do have beautiful features, but i'm unselfconscious about my love handles. how do i cover that up. not to mention my chubby vagina ( excuse the details). i'm 53 kilos, 5'4. but a little disproportional on my love handles. i dont want to expose them, how to cover up these flaws?

MKWeb answers:

Just be free and dont care!!

He obviously aint worried as hes been with u four years.

Its unnattractive for a woman to be all shy and self consious bout her body. He will love it if you just stand there confident and smiling!

Joseph asks…

How is it possible that my self confidence could have dropped from 32 to 15 since January?

In JROTC we take a test for self awareness, last year I scored a 32/100 in self confidence, this year I scored a 15! How did this happen so quickly?
HEY nice answers please, thank you for driving it down to a 7. :P You suck.

MKWeb answers:

I don't know the scale you are judging this on, i'm not familiar with it. However, this is irrelevant. Circumstances must have caused this and you should work out what these are what you can do to make this ok before you take an entirely objective test to work out what someone or something, not considering any real factors are basing you level of self confidence on. Have the courage to think about this and make yourself happy and self confidence will come.

Charles asks…

Could my teacher know that I have low confidence in my self if he said this?

My teacher told me, that I can get a 100% and that I was smart (I get really crappy grades) and he said that if I get a high mark on my test that my self confidence will higher, does he know I have low self esteem?

MKWeb answers:

Yes. He wants you to make a bigger effort because he knows how good it feels to get 100% and he wants you to feel it, too. If you have to ask for extra help, get it because it's worth it to get higher grades. The teacher just wants to be of help to you, so don't be lazy; get out there and try because he sees you are smart enough to do well. So show him and make yourself feel good, too! Don't use the words "low self confidence" as an excuse to do poorly. Maybe you're just lazy instead? Even if the teacher knows you supposedly have low self esteeem, YOU still have to do the work and make the effort. So just do it and see what happens!

Your Questions About Self-improvement Classes

Thomas asks…

Does anyone know where i can find deportment, etiquette or self improvement classes?

I live in the minneapolis area and want to find etiquette or deportment classes; how to talk how to walk manners that kind of thing... I know they exist for younger children, but i'm trying to find ones for adults. I've checked the net and come up blank if anyone could help that would be awsome.

MKWeb answers:

I'd check around with the local modeling agencies- they'd know. Good luck!

Joseph asks…

Online self improvement classes?

I have concocted a plan to be the best person I can be. I was wondering if there was an accredited or less expensive course I can do in being assertive, more confident and with higher self esteem and learn to speak in a more articulate voice online. These are the things I want to work on and I do not really want to go to classes. I was wondering if anywhere online has these courses?

MKWeb answers:

Thats a difficult one, there is free courses at http://openlearn.open.ac.uk some of which i believe can help you feel more confident and for articulation what country are you from? Email me and if i will see if i can help at all

Sharon asks…

Class Project-Self Improvement?

For an English class i have to make a video on a goal i set for myself meant to improve me. it can be anything from losing weight, learning to play guitar, or bringing up my grades. But i would like a non-school related goal that isn't about weight. Ideas?
PS I'm not much into learning an instrument.

MKWeb answers:

Will you be going to college nearby or far away?

Perhaps you can do a video on how to get to college - bus, car, train, etc. The most cost effect way and the quickest way.

There's always road construction or accidents on my way to work. It's very helpful that I took the time to find 2-3 different ways to arrive at work.

When you're in college, things are very expensive and you need to budget your money. In addition to tuition and books, there's transportation, parking, student fees, activities, and unexpected happenings, like a flat tire (patch or buy new).

And food. Will you eat at home or in the cafeteria or make your lunch?

Your goal could be estimating how much expenses will be for one semester and taping the various places you can go to accomplish staying on a budget.

Mary asks…

Name some good hobbies/classes that can be taken for fun?

I'm a 22 year old male, looking for numerous ideas as to things that I can do when out of work. Some for fun, but self improvement is always more interesting and useful.

I came up with things like this..cookiing classes, scuba diving class, salsa classes,etc..
I'm not talking so much about building models and things like that.
Rather the improvement type of things.
Thanks!

MKWeb answers:

Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but martial arts. You are about the same age as I am and its a good time to start. I do karate personally but any type of martial art is good. This is because it not only keeps you in great shape, but it is fun, and has practical applications as well. Kovars and places like that can be kind of expensive, but there are much cheaper ones around. I go to a Dojo 5x a week in California for only $20 a month.

Also, this is something that if you get into it, you will be doing the rest of your life.

William asks…

where can I find information about health screenings, and wellness programs and health insurance companies?

Donald asks…

about child care setting?

in child care setting what is reflective account give me an example?
what is holistic development?
what is team work?
why is important to set your self profeesional goals&targets

MKWeb answers:

Reflective account is telling what happened and what you thinka bout that. Example. Timmy bit billy. The reflective part is where you reflect back about maybe why, what you could have done differently, etc.

Holistic development is developing the whole child - emotional, physical, mental, cognitive

Team work is working together for a common purpose. Like every kid colors a spot on a piece of paper and you hang it on the wall for a mural

It is important because people can get bored in the child care field very easily. Because they deal with little kids who are easy to please almost every day, adults often forget they are professionals. Setting goals helps with this problem.

Lizzie asks…

Can someone please edit my essay?

Social workers strive to create a change towards equality, justice, human rights, and the well-being of all individuals. Social workers empower individuals with the tools necessary to achieve their goals and live their lives to the fullest. We must devote our lives to helping create a more equitable society. All individuals have a fundamental right to live decent, dignified, and fulfilling lives, but society is structured in a way that not all individuals have equal access to food, housing, education, and employment. We need to ensure that individual needs are met so people can be more self-sufficient and able to make the best possible choices for themselves.
Just as individuals have basic needs in order to function, meaningful relationships are also vital to satisfy their emotional, physical, social and educational needs. Relationships lay the foundation of support in the lives of every individual. For example, family is a source of support for individuals when dealing with problems in their lives. Some families have external and financial resources to help them with their problems, while many others do not. Often problems arise within a family or a relationship from a lack of communication. Relationships affect and influence everyone around us and they help us learn from each other, enabling us to build a mutually beneficial relationship with those around us who are less fortunate than we are and aid them in seeking a more equal society. A strong relationship means strong support, and strong support means that individuals will be aided and helped when in need. Strong support is good for the well-being of individuals everywhere, even to us as social workers. We need to strengthen relationships to help individuals get along better with their family that provides for their well-being.
Every human being is important and should be respected for his or her unique qualities and characteristics. We can readily understand that others hope to be treated fairly and equally under the law and in their daily lives. It is logical that we would hope that others recognize that we want the same things for ourselves. We have ethical responsibilities to help our clients with their problems. First of all, we need to have the training and tools to support them in their personal growth and development. Secondly, we need to be able to describe viable choices for them, given their current skill level and help them to attain improved skill levels. Finally, we need to guide them towards the recognition that the greater the knowledge, the broader the spectrum of choices we have. Most of all, we also need to lead them to the understanding that freedom of choice ultimately translates to living life to the fullest. If we all work together for the common good of these individuals, then we can create a fairer and more equitable society.

MKWeb answers:

Not bad at all.

Just put a comma in "Often problems arise within a family" so that it's "Often, problems arise within a family. ..."

need help with psychology questions?

i would really appreciate if someone can help me out with these questions. thank you a million times!!!

1) How would nativists and empiricists differently explain how children come to understand the world? What are some ways in which children organize their conceptual understandings: be sure to touch upon 3 different ways children organize their understandings, and explain them fully, giving an example of each. Why is theory of mind such an important concept for children to develop- how do they develop it? List 3 ways in which children add to their understandings of theory of mind.

2) Provide two different conceptualizations of “intelligence” in children (i.e. ways to explain “intelligence”). What is G? And what is the difference between crystallized and fluid intelligence? Finally, describe the theories of intelligence of both Gardner and Sternberg, and carefully list and explain two points by which they are essentially differ/can be safely contrasted.

3) Select two of Erikson’s psychosocial development stages, and explain them- what the crisis is, what the developmental goal is for a child, and how it is positively AND negatively resolved. Furthermore, explain why you think these are the most important two, and explain how they are related to each other. How is this compared to the understanding of a child’s social functioning, as explained by ecological theories of social development? List the 5 levels of Bronfenbrenner’s model, and give an “example” of a child, and an influence at each level..

4) A) What are the three main components of emotion, and what are the two primary perspectives of emotion in young children? Explain these. B) According to research, what are the three ways in which children’s emotion is managed or regulated? Explain these, and give clear examples (one example of each type of self-regulation). C) What is temperament? How do we characterize it? In answering this, be sure to touch upon the three “categories” of temperament, and how they are distinguished (i.e. label and explain them). Be sure to write at least a paragraph on how are these temperamental “types” might be impacted by experience.

Ruth asks…

Help me in English, please.?

Please check errors, add beautiful phrase and some school negatife features. I am from Belarus and soon will a open lesson at school and I will have to tell it. I can help you in Russian, if you need.

Educatio is a subject about which many people care deeply. Most believe that the state should provide aducation free of charge and to a high standard. There is now public debate about how schools are run, how they are financed: what they should teach, what they should achieve and to whom they should be accountable. Education standards are often said to be falling. Others think that standards are rising and that it is now much harder to achieve good marks. In spite of this conflict most people agree that a good education gives people the best chance of getting a good job and of improving their social position. Any school that achieves its goal is effective. It means to give academic growth, moral strength, and physical development. Nowadays the young do not have strong values. But this can be accomplished by instruction in church and at school, as well as through discussion and reading.

The biggest probleme for a school today is that it doesn’t guarantee future. Schooling doesn’t lead you into a job because it gives only general knowledge, but the job demand special knowledge and practical experience which can not be accomplished by school. Final exams don’t check all school programme. And tests can be quessed. Another problem is that talented pupils don’t have any privileges, for example, pupils who know foreign language can’t go to the motherland of that language. Because for the state all pupils have the same rights. And teachers are not able to sort out problems of contemporary education.
I think some pupils don’t achieve good marks because they have got to do too many subjects. Some subjects are a waste of time and children don’t have time to learn important subjects. Some pupils budget their time perfectly. No doubt, school is an essential part of our life. It helps us to choose our own road, it teaches us to appreciate friendship to find the ways of self-education and achieving goals. That is why people made a lot of proverbs and saying about education: “Money spent on the brain is never spent in vain” and “Values are caught, not taught”. The relations between teachers and pupils should be based on tolerance, mutal understanding and respect. Teachers should understand our problems and needs, he should be intelligent. We want to have up-to-date equipment in each classroom. Now some words about uniform. Uniform doesn’t segregate pupils on rich or poor. It makes pupils organized and disciplined. But abolition of uniform stand out pupils from other classmates....(I do not know what else to say)

Here is the passage with some revision:

Education is a subject about which many people care deeply. Most believe that the state should provide education free of charge and to a high standard. Yet there is now public debate about how schools are run and financed: what they should teach, what they should achieve and to whom they should be accountable. Education standards are often said to be falling. Others think that standards are rising and that it is now much harder to achieve good grades. In spite of this conflict most people agree that a good education gives people the best chance of getting a good job and of improving their position in society. But for students to receive good education, schools must achieve their goals in creating academic growth, moral strength, and physical development. This can be accomplished by thorough instruction in school, more comprehensive testing, and through discussion and reading.

The biggest problem for a school today is that it doesn’t guarantee a good future. Schooling doesn’t lead students into jobs because it provides only general knowledge, instead of the special knowledge demanded on the job that can only be gained through practical experience. Furthermore, final exams are insufficient tests of subject competency, and the tests themselves can be completed through guessing. Another problem is that talented pupils don’t have any special privileges. For example, there are few programs that allow foreign language students to visit the homeland of the language they are studying. This is because, according to the state, all pupils have the same rights.

While some pupils have no trouble budgeting their time, many others don’t achieve good marks because they are loaded with many unnecessary subjects. Additionally, teachers are not able to sort out problems of contemporary education. The relations between teachers and pupils should be based on tolerance, mutual understanding and respect. Yet often, teachers care little about their pupils, limiting personal help and interaction, which hurts students. Teachers need to do more to understand students’ and parents’ problems and needs, and to deal intelligently with issues. Another issue is the lack of up-to-date equipment.

No doubt, school is an essential part of our life. It helps us to choose our own road, it teaches us to appreciate friendship to learn methods of self-education and achieving goals. Now some words about uniform. Uniform doesn’t segregate pupils on rich or poor. It makes pupils organized and disciplined. But abolition of uniform stand out pupils from other classmates....(I do not know what else to say)

Some notes on phrases that I removed or reworded:

(Nowadays the young do not have strong values. But this can be accomplished by instruction in church and at school, as well as through discussion and reading.) The first sentence doesn’t tie into anything else in the paper, so it’s out. Secondly, you are talking solely about school education, so church doesn’t belong here.
(I think some pupils don’t achieve good marks because they have got to do too many subjects. Some subjects are a waste of time and children don’t have time to learn important subjects.) This definitely needs specific examples.
(That is why people made a lot of proverbs and saying about education: “Money spent on the brain is never spent in vain” and “Values are caught, not taught”.) Not well placed, and since the second proverb actually devalues formal education, the whole sentence is worth leaving out.

Although it seems that you tried to create a thesis (statement on what your paper is supposed to focus) at the end of the first paragraph, the arguments you make throughout the paper don’t have a common theme except being in the sphere of education. :( You need to organize what you are trying to say by paragraphs based on ideas like “why education is an essential part of life” or “what should be done to improve academic growth.”

With more focus and organization, you should be able to put together a good paper. I hope what I have pointed out will help. : )

Some comments from my Russian mom: The terms 'student', 'pupil', and 'grade', as I used them, are acceptable for use in the US, but if you are presenting this speech in Europe, where there is differentiation between 'pupil' (typically referring to grade-schoolers) and 'students' (usually meaning university students), you should make the appropriate changes. 'Marks', as you originally had it, is the more accepted term in Europe whereas 'grades' are more common in the US.

Often, problems arise within a family or a relationship from a lack of communication.

Social workers must have integrity. This ethical core value is endlessly important. It is the standard of deciding what is right and wrong and what each of us ought to do usually in terms of rights and obligations, benefits, common good, least harm, and social justice for all individuals. These are all central to what social workers want to create en equal Social workers must adhere to the ethical principles of integrity on maintaining a high code of behavior, honesty, trust, being respected, and having a sense of justice and fairness. Being honest and having integrity can be a guide for everything that one does. What to do when no one is watching, knowing the difference between doing the right thing and wrong thing, and keeping your word are all examples of integrity. These are attributes that social workers should practice as professionals and in their everyday lives. Having integrity is respected both in personal and professional relationships .One needs to display a certain amount of sincerity and morals when working with clients. A social worker, specifically, must uphold the highest level of morality and maintain that level when other people try to challenge their views and test their wills. When social workers are challenged with ethical situations, they have to maintain a sense of integrity to their profession, ethics, and principles. We need to understand that clients have different values and beliefs from our own and as social workers we have to be open to learning about these differences and behave in an ethical manner.

Diversity means a myriad of things to people and for me; diversity never was and never will be a bad thing. It is the differences in the decisions that we make, the way we think, act, behave, and choose to live our lives. People tend to be uncomfortable when they mention diversity. Diversity is more than gender and race. People are diverse with their age, personality, experiences. lifestyles and sexual orientations. When we look at diversity, we must look beyond our own race and gender and take a broader view of things that make up the whole person and makes

Just from scanning your essay, I noticed that you used words like 'we'. From and English standpoint, it is common to never include this or words such as 'I' or 'Me'. I also noticed that there are a lot of declarations in the essay. This is all well and good as long as you have proof to back up what you declare a social worker as, or the jobs they perform. Im not sure if this is for high school or college, but if it is for college, I would recommend going to Purdue Universities OWL program, and getting help with APA format. I only throw this idea out there, because it seems like this topic is not based in the humanities. I would also recommend having a clear and distinguishable thesis; the only thing I know from the opening paragraph is what you believe, not what you are trying to persuade.

Your Questions About Self Improvement Books

Laura asks…

any good self improvement books on dating??

im 21 and my dating life is kinda lame now...any good books??

MKWeb answers:

Nope. Any you may come across are written either by people who are so far out of dating they have the time to write a book about it, or are so far out of dating their techniques may be downright amusing.

There's no 'how-to' that's going to help you get a date. What you do is suck it up and ask the girl out. She can only say no. Go somewhere else, maybe even on another day if your ego is pretty delicate, and ask another girl you would like to date.

At least one of these girls will say yes. At least one. They are not going to put you down hard unless they are insecure themselves. Always remember that. It will be fine.
Think of nice places to take a girl--

Paul asks…

Good self improvement books....?

I am 26 and going through this "phase" right now where I don't really look at myself and say"God, Im great" and I really want to feel like that. There's things I want to fix about myself so I can truly feel like I am being the best person I can be and living the best life I can. But I want some guidance and am looking for some book title. Im not depressed nor do I have a low self esteem...just looking to do some soul searching I guess. Maybe journaling books...anything...
Im looking for non-religious type books...although Im not totally opposed if the books really good...

MKWeb answers:

Some books I've found to be very helpful are:

The Intuitive Way: A Guide to Living From Inner Wisdom
by Penney Peirce

10 Spiritual Steps to a Magical Life
by Adrian Calabrese, Ph.D.

Meditation Secrets for Women: Discovering Your Passion, Pleasure, and Inner Peace
by Camille Maurine & Lorin Roche, Ph.D.

Anything by Caroline Myss, she's awesome for soul-searching guidance.

All these books are about spiritual work, not religious work. Soul-searching requires spiritual work. ;)

Your Questions About Self Esteem Issues

Ken asks…

What is the deal with "self esteem" issues?

I never understood how people use the dreaded "self esteem" issues when making excuses for others. Or when they use the term against people that disagree with them.

What are self esteem issues?

And why is the term used mostly with females?

Per Diedra O, we are not allowed to add nor clarify to questions, so I hope this question is clear.

MKWeb answers:

Daedra Os question was silly

I get told I have self esteem issues alot by feminists. Then when I disagree, they tell me I have a big ego problem, and that I think too highly of myself.

Lizzie asks…

To what extent do celebrities cause self esteem issues in teenage girls?

Are there an examples of specific surveys or research done showing that overly thin celebrities have caused self esteem issues in young women?
Do you know of any specific anecdotes where this has been proven to be true?

MKWeb answers:

Well, just common sense wise, the rise of eating disorders has peaked and basically started in the late 80s/90s. There is media overload these days and there is hardly a healthy celebrity for young girls to look up to.

Sharon asks…

College Essay Topic: A person that can and will inspire me, I got major depression self esteem issues. im not suicidal but want to be sucessful!

MKWeb answers:

Louise hay
abraham lincoln.
Many people had self esteem issues. Very often lack of self-esteem is the main reason for wanting to be famous.

Donna asks…

How to overcome self esteem issues?

What can I do to get over my self esteem issues and be more confidant in myself. It just seems like I always doubt myself or feel inferior to others.

MKWeb answers:

Make a list of your more positive qualities on one side of a piece of paper. Ask friends and family for input. Make a list of your not-so-glowing qualities on the other side.
Now, choose one thing from each list each day to work on just for that day. Make every effort to exercise and improve your positive quality and make the same effort to avoid that thing that you don't admire about yourself.
You will soon begin to see improvement in yourself and NOTHING does more for the self-image and self-confidence than making progress in a positive direction.
